Chaneta Leadership Handover Begins New Era for Netball

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) is set to officially hand over leadership to its newly elected team, marking a significant step forward in the development of netball in the country.

Outgoing CHANETA Chairperson, Devotha Marwa, confirmed that the handover ceremony will take place tomorrow at the National Sports Council (NSC) offices in Dar es Salaam.

This follows the association’s General Election held on February 1, 2026, in Dodoma, where Devotha, who had served two terms, chose not to run for re-election, in line with the association’s constitution.

Under the new leadership, CHANETA will be guided by Stella Mwangomale – Chairperson, Juliana Manyere – ViceChairperson, Rahma Kilimba – SecretaryGeneral, Teddy Musyangi – Assistant SecretaryGeneral and Rose Makange (Treasurer).

And the Committee which includes Costansia Kisege, Halfa Rambi, Pili Mogella, Shukuru Kiwege, Stephen Mzee, and Sweetbart Magoti. Reflecting on the association’s journey, Devotha shared that CHANETA once had an office in Kurasini area. However, due to financial challenges, the association was forced to return the office to its owner.

“We were without a proper office space after we gave it back,” she explained.

“Since 2011, we had memberships in regional, continental, and global associations, but due to the challenges we faced, we were suspended from international competitions,” Devotha added, emphasising the hurdles that CHANETA has faced over the years. Recent World Netball Federation (WN) rankings, released on December 1, 2025, have seen Tanzania placed in the lower tiers of African and global rankings.

Once ranked among the top African nations and 41st worldwide, the country’s performance on the international stage has notably declined, largely due to a lack of participation in globally recognized competitions.

Despite these challenges, the new leadership is committed to restoring CHANETA’s standing and driving forward the growth of netball in Tanzania. With fresh leadership, the association aims to reestablish its presence in international tournaments and elevate Tanzania’s status in the world of netball.
