Chaumma Launches Nomination for MP and Councilor Posts

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE People’s Liberation Party (CHAUMMA) has officially kicked off its nomination process for parliamentary and councilor positions ahead of the upcoming General Election, while the presidential candidacy remains on hold for now.

Speaking today in Dar es Salaam, CHAUMMA’s Secretary General, Salum Mwalimu, announced today, July 1, 2025, as the party opens its doors to all eligible members and interested citizens wishing to contest for parliamentary or councilor positions under the party’s banner.

“This is the right time for our members — and even those who are not yet members but intend to run through CHAUMMA — to prepare to collect and complete nomination forms by the party’s established procedures,” said Salum Mwalimu.

According to the Secretary General, all aspirants for parliamentary and councilor positions (including special seats) from both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar will be required to first express their intent to run in specific constituencies or wards before being issued official nomination forms.

This step is designed to ensure genuine commitment and to establish the aspirant’s connection to the community they aim to represent.

CHAUMMA’s announcement comes just days after the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), released its own nomination schedule for parliamentary, councilor, and representative positions — a process running from June 28 to July 2, 2025.

At present, CHAUMMA has not yet announced its process for selecting a presidential candidate. The party stated that this matter will be addressed after the initial stages of collecting and processing applications for other positions are completed.

CHAUMMA emphasized the importance of calm, transparency, and adherence to party regulations throughout the nomination process, reaffirming its commitment to providing equal opportunity to all qualified members.
