Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has called on media outlets to maintain professionalism in their work by publishing accurate information, using respectful language, avoiding incitement, and reporting fairly and impartially.
Speaking today, July 9, 2025, during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to discuss the role of the media in facilitating the upcoming general elections, Dr. Biteko emphasized that the media is a key pillar in preserving peace, especially during this period as the nation heads toward the general elections scheduled for October this year.
“It is critically important for journalists to uphold the dignity of their profession and ensure that peace continues to prevail in the country, particularly during this sensitive election period,” said Dr. Biteko.
He reminded journalists of their significant responsibility to promote transparency, accountability, and close monitoring of the electoral process by accurately reporting on events occurring before, during, and after the election.
Dr. Biteko also underscored the importance of journalists investigating and truthfully reporting violations of the law, misuse of public resources, and other challenges that could undermine the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.
The meeting was attended by various stakeholders from the government, private sector, and civil society organizations, all of whom agreed that the media has a crucial role to play in ensuring the 2025 general elections are conducted peacefully, fairly, and transparently.
