CHAUMMA Vows to Eradicate Poverty, Create Billionaires

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chama Cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) has unveiled ambitious plans to tackle extreme poverty by boosting value chains in the livestock, agriculture and mining sectors.

CHAUMMA’s presidential candidate, Mr Salum Mwalimu, made the announcement on Tuesday at a campaign rally held at Nyankumbu Market grounds in Geita town.

Mr Mwalimu stated that if given the mandate to lead the country, during the October 29th this year General Election, CHAUMMA will implement policies that create a conducive environment benefiting ordinary citizens, entrepreneurs, business- people and investors alike.

“Our government has clear goals and a positive vision to establish an open economic system that offers opportunities for every Tanzanian including farmers, herders and small-scale miners to grow, prosper and become millionaires and later graduate to billionaires,” he said.

He said CHAUMMA is committed to inclusive economic policies and effective empowerment, aiming to create many millionaires across the Geita region and Tanzania, while eradicating poverty.

The candidate highlighted the need to promote the livestock and mining sectors to transform the economy and improve the livelihoods of the people of Geita, whose growth has stagnated due to poor planning.

“Let us decide to change the country’s policies. We are still trapped in poverty. We need to reflect on our lives because these issues have been talked about for years, some understand, but some do not,” Mwalimu said.

He noted that no one is safe from poverty unless change occurs. He positioned CHAUMMA as the party with the vision to bring this change, if given the opportunity.

Expressing concern, he pointed out that despite Geita having about 1.8 million cattle, the region lacks a single factory to add value to hides, leaving livestock keepers impoverished.

“God has blessed us. Tanzania ranks second in Africa in livestock numbers, yet livestock keepers still live in hardship. There are no adequate pastures or major leather factories,” he explained.

Mr Mwalimu also pledged to review the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) law to ensure local communities in resourcerich areas benefit more substantially.

“You cannot have abundant resources and still export raw materials instead of finished goods. Exporting raw materials creates wealth and jobs for other countries,” he said.

He added, “We have raw materials and electricity, but no factories. How do we create employment for our people?”
