Africa-Press – Tanzania. TAIFA Stars Head Coach Miguel Ángel Gamondi has pledged to build a strong and competitive national football team, as he begins his new role.

Gamondi said his goal is to work closely with local players and use his experience in the Tanzanian league to strengthen the team’s performance in upcoming competitions.

“This is my third year in Tanzania, and I know the league well,” he said. “I also know many Tanzanian players, and that makes me proud to contribute to the national team. Thanks to TFF for trusting me. I believe we will achieve good results together.”

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) confirmed Gamondi’s new role through its official Instagram account and a press release issued on November 4. According to TFF, he will lead Taifa Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco next month.

Gamondi replaces Hemed Suleiman, who guided the national team during the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast. Under Suleiman, Tanzania qualified again for this year’s AFCON and reached the CHAN quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by Morocco.

Gamondi, who also manages Singida Black Stars, said he intends to focus on developing young players and helping them gain confidence to compete internationally.

“The country has many young players with passion and ambition. My aim is to work with them and build a team that represents Tanzania well,” he added.

He will make his first appearance as national coach when Taifa Stars face Kuwait in an international friendly on November 14, 2025, at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt. The match is part of the FIFA international window.
