Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Taekwondo Federation (TTF) will hold its elective general meeting today in Arusha, a key step toward shaping the future of the sport in the country.
According to TTF Secretary General Shija Shija, the election will take place at Njiro Complex, where delegates will elect new leaders to serve a four-year term. Aspiring candidates began collecting nomination forms last week.
“Unlike previous elections where contestants from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar could vie for leadership positions, this year’s election will involve only Mainland contestants,” said Shija.
“The National Sports Council (NSC) advised that Zanzibar, having its own Taekwondo association, should conduct its own leadership process.”
Shija said the current leadership’s term expired in October last year, but office bearers continued serving in an interim capacity due to financial and administrative challenges. Delegates attending the meeting will meet their own travel costs, while the federation will provide meals during the event.
He said the elections are important for strengthening governance and direction within the sport.
“This elective general meeting is essential for the growth of Taekwondo in Tanzania,” Shija said. “Elections are not only a constitutional requirement, but also a process that promotes accountability and transparency.”
He added that new leadership offers a chance to bring in new ideas and reinforce the federation’s commitment to Taekwondo’s values of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
“Through this democratic process, members can choose leaders who are responsible and aligned with the principles that define our sport,” he concluded.
