Africa-Press – Tanzania. COAST region is facing high rate of unemployment despite having 1,438 factories of which 82 are large scale big industries.

The situation has compelled the regional commissioner, Mr Aboubakar Kunenge, to call for a survey to see the rationale behind the raising unemployment, especially among the youth.

“Having such number of industries in the region and still having a serious problem of unemployment among youths does not make sense at all.

“We need to make follow up and see if production in these industries has dropped and if so, we have to know and come up with solutions,” he said.

The RC was speaking during Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting held in Kibaha Township. He said that the number of industries in the region must match with the level of production as well as solving the problem of unemployment.

On the other hand, RC Kunenge emphasised to the public servants to increase efficiency at their work places in order to solve current challenges facing people in their respective areas.

“One of the obstacles which are facing the region is land conflicts which are mainly contributed by residents’ failure to follow regulations and instead they have been invading areas which are legally owned,” Mr Kunenge said.

To solve the problem, he instructed each district to have its own master plan in order to solve land disputes which have delayed development projects in some areas of the region.

The RC office will continue to make sure that all individuals are involved in invading other people’s plots and owning them or selling them illegally are being dealt accordingly so end the acts and maintain peace in the region.

According to the 2012 national census, the region had a population of 1,098,668 and with a size of 32,407 square kilometres the region is slightly larger than Belgium’s 32,133 square kilometres.
