Africa-Press – Tanzania. COMPASSION International Tanzania has spent a total of $2,828,610 equivalent to 5,657,220,000/- in 2020/2021 financial year for execution of various projects in the country.

The organization’s Director, Ms Mary Lema revealed that at the opening of a one day meeting that was attended by clerics from the Lake Zone regions.

She said that some of the funds totaling $750,682 (1,501,364,000/-) was used for child protection project, $646,485 (1,292,970,000/-) spent on education and youth development whereby the money was used to pay school fees and other costs for 23,022 students.

“A total of 8,611 youth have graduated at vocational educational training authorities (VETA) at various levels,” she said.

Commenting on promoting household economy, she said a total of 226 Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS) with a total of 3,763 members were established.

She added that the organisation also partnered with children and youth development centers and provided entrepreneurship and business skills to 24,339 youth, children and parents in the country.

“Through the formation of the SACCOS more than 1.1 bn/- was collected and more than 1bn/- was provided as loans to members,” she said.

Ms Lema clarified that a total of $855,011 (equivalent to 1,710,022,000/-) was spent in the health and nutrition project, where a total of 82,733 youths with special needs joined the improved health insurance fund while 54,272 children and youths were trained on reproductive health.

The CIC Director noted that 274,136 USD (548,272,000/-) was spent in water, sanitation and hygiene project, where a total of 23 deep wells and six rain water harvesting projects were accomplished. A total of 88,530 children, youths and parents also benefited from sanitation and water sources protection education.

She further noted that, $305,939 (611,878,000/-) was spent in disaster relief and response project and $23,357 (54,714,000/-) was used in livelihood project to improve social welfare.

She commended religious leaders for working closely with CIC noting that their ideas contributed to the success of the implementation of various projects undertaken by CIC and would not have been possible without the necessary contribution of the church.

She said that the meeting which is being held every year is an important forum to discuss, evaluate and develop specific strategies and plans to advance child and youth development services offered by CIC.

For his part, Archbishop Philipo Mafuja from Africa Inland Church Tanzania (AICT) Mwanza Diocese said the cooperation with CIC has enabled many youths in the church to grow ethically and worship God for the well-being of their lives.

Assistant Archbishop from Pentecost Assemblies of God from Shinyanga region Pastor Thomas Faida said his church has seena great achievement since in 2007 after it joined CIC.
