Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE CRDB Bank has scooped two awards at the ongoing safety week organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA).

The bank won in the two categories of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the financial institution which effectively adheres to workplace health and safety policy for its employees.

The event was held at Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in the capital city Dodoma on Thursday.

The awards were presented to CRDB Bank by the Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (Labor, Youth, Employment and the Disabled), Professor Joyce Ndalichako, during the culmination of the World Workplace Safety and Health Week celebrations held in Dodoma.

Speaking at the exhibition after being presented with the awards, CRDB Bank’s Head of Defense, Security and Business Development, Mr Misana Mutani, said the growth of technology has changed the work environment and as well increased workplace risks.

Mr Mutani said the Bank has been running various programs for employees across the country including health checkups for all employees each year including introducing a special day for physical exercises. He also mentioned that CRDB has set up a special first aid room, especially for mothers and children (lactation room).

“As our country continues to build an industrial economy and move towards a middle-income economy, more industries are established, and thus there was need to pay more attention to guidelines for safety and health at workplaces,” he said.

Mr Mutani also stated that in an effort to combat green gases, the bank encourages industries to reduce emission of air pollution and keep the workplaces safe for workers.

“Accidents and illnesses at workplaces are preventable as their sources can be identified and controlled,” said Mr Mutani.
