Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, has confirmed that the expansion project of the Kinyerezi I Extension Power Receiving and Cooling Station has been officially completed, including the installation of a 175 MVA transformer.
Speaking during her visit to the Kinyerezi I, Kinyerezi II, Ubungo I, Ubungo II, and Ubungo III power generation stations, the Deputy Minister said this step is crucial to ensuring a reliable electricity supply for residents of Dar es Salaam, particularly in areas like Mbagala and Gongo la Mboto, which have been facing frequent power outages due to population growth and increased economic activities.
“We are very grateful to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her significant investment. The transformers have been installed, testing is ongoing, and the residents of Gongo la Mboto and Mbagala will now have reliable electricity,” said Deputy Minister Makamba.

Meanwhile, TANESCO CEO, Lazaro Twange, stated that the company continues to improve its infrastructure to meet the growing electricity demand.
Twange noted that a large 175 MVA transformer has been installed at Kinyerezi, while 120 MVA transformers have been installed in Gongo la Mboto and Mbagala to meet the rising electricity needs.
He emphasized that the population in Dar es Salaam has been increasing, making it necessary to continuously upgrade the electricity infrastructure to match demand.
“The goal of the Kinyerezi I Extension was to increase the capacity to distribute electricity efficiently to our customers,” said Twange.
