Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has pledged to support the Mayor of Dallas, Texas, Eric Johnson, in implementing his strategy to establish an economic network between business communities in Dallas and Tanzania. The collaboration aims to boost trade, investment, and international business platforms between the two sides.

Ambassador Kombo made this commitment during an official meeting with Mayor Johnson held at the ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam. Their discussions focused on enhancing economic and diplomatic relations between Tanzania and the City of Dallas.

Mayor Johnson stated that the purpose of his visit was to formally introduce himself and to deepen his understanding of the ministry’s responsibilities and priorities. He emphasized that this effort is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Tanzania’s engagement with global partners, especially in economic and development matters.

“It is a great honor to visit Africa for the first time, especially Tanzania — a beautiful country rich in natural resources and home to warm and welcoming people. I am impressed by the Tanzanians’ desire to build global relationships by leveraging their national opportunities for development,” Johnson said.

Mayor Johnson is in Tanzania for a three-day visit that began on July 21, 2025. His trip aims to learn more about Tanzania and explore the country’s economic opportunities, with the goal of laying the groundwork for direct investment and trade ties between the people of Dallas and Tanzania across various sectors.

Accompanying the mayor on his visit were the Tanzanian Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Elsie Kanza, and a delegation from the City of Dallas, including Chief of Staff Alheli Garza, Chief of Protocol and International Relations Beth Huddleston, and the International Affairs Manager from the Office of Governmental and Strategic Partnerships.

The meeting was organized by Ambassador John Ulanga, Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy and International Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
