The Tanzanian Ministry of Defence is coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to ensure the payment of 5.7 billion Tanzanian Shillings in compensation to citizens vacating land for military purposes in the JKT Itaka area. The compensation will benefit residents from Sasenga, Mboji, and Itewe villages, with payments based on a valuation conducted in 2022.

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Ministry of Defence and National Service is working closely with the Ministry of Finance to ensure citizens, who gave way for the JKT Itaka area in Mbozi are paid 5.7bn/- in compensation.

Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr Simeon Nyansaho, said this in the National Assembly yesterday, while responding to Mbozi lawmaker Onesmo Mkondya, who sought to know when the compensation would be paid.

“Honourable Speaker, the Ministry conducted valuation in the Unit 845KJ – Itaka JKT area to facilitate compensation for citizens expected to vacate the land for military use,” he said.

According to him, the valuation was conducted in 2022 and approved by the Chief Government Valuer in the 2023/24 financial year, covering Sasenga, Mboji and Itewe villages.

Out of the 5.7bn/-, 3.49bn/- is allocated for 312 citizens in Sasenga Village, 74.36m/- for four citizens in Mboji Village and 2.15bn/- for 150 citizens in Itewe Village.

Dr Nyansaho said valuation reports have been submitted to the Treasury to facilitate verification and payment.

“The Ministry continues to work closely with the Ministry of Finance to ensure timely payment of compensation in accordance with the valuation,” he said.

He urged affected citizens to remain patient as the government finalises the process.

The JKT Itaka area in Mbozi has been designated for military use, prompting the government to compensate residents who must vacate their land. The compensation process is part of a broader initiative to facilitate military expansion while addressing the needs of affected citizens. The valuation for compensation was approved in the 2023/24 financial year, ensuring that residents receive fair compensation for their land rights. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to balancing national defense needs with community welfare.
