AfricaPress-Tanzania: MARA Regional Commissioner (RC), Adam Malima has received 100 sets of uniform, including boots for the people’s militia, donated by Grumeti Reserves and Grumeti Fund.

The RC received the donation which further included 15 infra-red thermometers in his office on Thursday.

Mr Malima said the sets of uniform were for the people’s militia patrolling the Tanzanian border with the neighbouring country in Tarime and Rorya districts at this time when the government was fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Malima said intensifying patrols along the border was one of the strategies that the region had put in place to protect citizens against the pandemic by ensuring that nobody entered  the country through illegal entry points.

“These sets of uniform are very important at this time of Covid-19 crisis and we thank Grumeti Reserves and Grumeti Fund for support.

The people’s militia will now look like other security personnel and discharged their duties properly,” Mr Malima said.

He said already the people’s militia was doing an impressive job in border areas.

Mr Malima noted that infrared thermometers that screened human temperature would be directed towards areas attracting a big number of people like at courts, police stations and markets.

The regional chief reminded residents of Mara to cooperate with security agencies to fight against the pandemic and abide by preventive measures recommended by health experts.

Grumeti Fund Relationships Manager, David Mwakipesile handed over the donation to the RC.

Grumeti Fund and their eco-tourism partner company Grumeti Reserves have both heavily invested in conservation, community development and tourism in the western Serengeti over the last 18 years.

Both Grumeti Reserves and Grumeti Fund have been supporting the government’s efforts to fight against the pandemic in the region by donating various protective gear and working with health officials to fight against Covid-19 in Serengeti and Bunda districts. The RC is leading the Covid-19 war in the region.
