Africa-Press – Tanzania. DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, today, July 24, 2025, inspected final preparations for the National Heroes’ Day commemorations slated for tomorrow at the Heroes’ Stadium in Mtumba, Dodoma.
The day, observed annually on July 25th, pays tribute to men and women who selflessly dedicated their lives, energy, and service to safeguard Tanzania’s peace, freedom, and development.
This year’s event will feature special ceremonies, including a grand military parade by members of the Defence and Security Forces.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces, is expected to officiate the celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
“This is a special day to remember and honour all our heroes—those who died on the battlefield, those who were injured while defending the nation, and those who served with integrity until retirement,” Dr Biteko said.
As part of the commemorations, the Heroes’ Memorial Torch will be officially lit at 00:00 a.m. today by Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, on behalf of the President. The symbolic act marks the beginning of the national mourning period in remembrance of Tanzania’s fallen heroes.
Tomorrow’s official programme will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a ceremonial parade—a symbol of respect and national pride.
The event will conclude at 00:00 a.m. with the extinguishing of the Heroes’ Memorial Torch, signifying the end of the 2025 national remembrance and mourning period.
Dr Biteko urged Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers to participate in the commemorations, describing the day as a moment of unity and national reflection.
“This is a day for every Tanzanian—a time to remember our fellow citizens who stood firm for our country. I urge the media, both traditional and digital platforms, to support the government in educating the public about the legacy of our heroes, their immense contributions, and why we continue to honour them every year,” he emphasized.
