PM Invites Belarusians to Explore Tanzania Investments

Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has launched a charm offensive in Belarus, extending a robust invitation to investors to explore Tanzania’s burgeoning investment opportunities, with a particular emphasis on the rapidly expanding agriculture sector.

The Premier was speaking during his meeeting with his Belarus’ counterpart, Mr Alexander Turchin in Minsk. The two charted way foward for advancing bilateral cooperation between Tanzania and Beralus.

The two leaders highlighted key areas of collaboration including investment, trade, energy, minerals, education, health, technology and agriculture.

Mr Majaliwa told his host that the visit intended to strengthen the diplomatic ties including economic cooperation in investment, education, health and agricultural equipment supply.

He welcomed Berusians to explore booming economic opportunities in the Tanzania’s agriculture sector.

“The discussions have opened new avenues to deepen investment and unlock trade and high learning institutions’ opportunities in the two countries,” Mr Majaliwa said.

He revealed that the talks enabled Tanzanian ministers and permanent secretaries, part of his delegation, to initiate business discussions with the Minsk Tractor Plant OJSC Company. The goal is to encourage the company to establish a similar manufacturing plant in Tanzania.

Mr Majaliwa told the meeting participants including Belarus Chamber of Commerce’s representatives that Tanzania has significantly reduced time for issuing investment licenses, expanded special economic zones and undertook tax legal reforms to foster investment in the country. The special economic zones are coordinated by the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA).

Furthermore, Mr Majaliwa assured Belarusian investors of Tanzania’s wide market access, stemming from its strategic regional position as a member of both the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as benefiting from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

During the meeting the prime ministers witnessed signing of three Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) covering political cooperation, development of agriculture and education in the two countries.

Another framework agreement, which was signed involved Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA ) to Belarus’s Chamber of Commerce, seeking to boost trade volume between the two countries.

Beralus’ Premier, Mr Turchin commended Mr Majaliwa for visiting Belarus saying his visit earned the Eastern Europe respect of receiving high level official from Tanzania for the first time.

Mr Turchin said Belarus considers Tanzania as the strategic partner for collaborating in socio-economic and political development.

“We are ready to collaborate in the areas which you have mentioned,” he said. Mr Turchin said their discussions marked a new beginning of permanent collaboration between the two countries on among others food security, healthcare, agriculture and education.

He wished President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan all the best in the upcoming General Election this year.

Early, Mr Majaliwa toured the Republican Unitary Production Enterprise which ventures in pharmaceuticals and the Minsk Tractor Plant OJSC.
