House Adopts Bunge Mtandao for Debate Access

Africa-Press – Tanzania. MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) seeking an opportunity to contribute to debates in the National Assembly will, effective today, be required to submit their requests through the Bunge Mtandao system.

Previously, legislators were required to register their names at the Office of the Chief Whip. However, Deputy Speaker Daniel Sillo announced in Dodoma yesterday that the process will now be conducted online.

The Deputy Speaker made the announcement shortly before the House adjourned to allow MPs to attend the funeral of the Isimani legislator, who also served as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Mr William Lukuvi.

“Honourable Members of Parliament, procedures for requesting the opportunity to contribute to debates or motions will now \be conducted through Bunge Mtandao. This will take effect starting with the budget speeches from the Prime Minister’s Office and other ministries,” he said.

He added that MPs who may face challenges in filling out the online forms should seek assistance from parliamentary IT personnel.

The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the e-Government Authority (e-GA), which continues to implement various interventions aimed at supporting public institutions in delivering online services efficiently.

These efforts include expanding and improving government online service delivery channels, providing advisory and technical support, enhancing human resource capacity within institutions, facilitating access to secure and reliable e-government infrastructure and systems, and strengthening as well as coordinating cybersecurity initiatives across public institutions.

Earlier, before the commencement of parliamentary business in Dodoma, the Deputy Speaker led MPs in taking the Declaration of the Patriotic Pledge of Allegiance for all Members of Parliament.

The House also observed a moment of silence in honour of veteran politician William Vangimembe Lukuvi, who passed away on March 25, 2026, at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Professor Riziki Shemdoe, tabled various documents in Parliament.
