Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged staff overseeing this year’s General Elections to be proactive by reporting any operational challenges well in advance of the polls.

This proactive approach aims to resolve issues early, ensuring a smoother electoral process.

INEC Commissioner Dr Zakia Abubakar delivered this counsel recently while concluding a three-day training session in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, for constituency-level election coordinators and supervisors.

“Some challenges emerged during the voter register update,” Dr Abubakar stated.

“Ensure those issues do not resurface during the general elections.”

She also stressed the importance of careful communication regarding election matters, especially when interacting with the media.

“Provide necessary information only when you are fully confident,” she advised.

“If you need guidance, seek it before sharing details, so the information you provide does not create confusion within the community.”

Dr Abubakar further instructed officers to meticulously inspect all election equipment upon distribution and promptly report any deficiencies.

She encouraged the training participants to cascade the knowledge gained to their colleagues at the ward level, as directed by the commission.

This, she noted, will contribute significantly to the success of this year’s general elections.

“I also advise you to ensure the diligent use of funds allocated for general election activities in your assigned areas,” she added.

Dr Zakia advised the officers also to ensure that the organisations and institutions entrusted with conducting training related to the general election carry out such activities in accordance with the General Election regulations, all the electoral procedures and the laws of the country.

“These regulations include ensuring that all organisations and institutions entrusted with such training carry out their activities in the constituencies they have been assigned to conduct the trainings”, she said.

Earlier, presenting the report on the, the Chairman of the training, Mr Rogath Godwin, said that a total of 12 topics were presented during the training.

“The topics included, among other things, the responsibilities of officials during the general election and what to consider during the whole period of this year’s general elections”, he said.

He commended the INEC leadership for providing the training, whereby he said that, he and his colleagues will carefully consider all that they learned during the training so that this year’s General Election are conducted effectively as planned.
