Africa-PressTanzania. DEPUTY Minister for Minerals, Prof Shukrani Manya, has directed the Tanzania Mining Commission (TMC) to issue a mineral licence to Bulumbuka Umoja Mining Group in Bariadi District to end a long standing dispute at Block No 2.

He issued the directive yesterday during his tour of Bariadi District in Simiyu Region, while addressing regional leaders and land owners in villages surrounding Bulumbuka Mines.

“To end the long standing dispute Bulumbuka Umoja Mining Group should be issued a licence, but with a clear demarcation and they should in turn respect conditions listed in their mineral licence,” he said.

However, Prof Manya appealed for mutual relations between the owners of the mine and small-scale miners for economic development.

Simiyu Regional Mines Officer Oscar Kalowa informed the deputy minister that the root cause of the misunderstanding between land owners opposing another group claiming that they undermined operations.

Bariadi District Commissioner (DC) Festo Kiswaga commended Prof Manya for resolving the dispute, adding that mutual relations would speed up development.

This is a significant and positive step for the mining sector and represents the government’s intention to increase tax.
