Africa-Press – Tanzania. A special congress of the ACT-Wazalendo party elected Juma Haji Duni as its national chairman replacing the post left vacant following the death of Seif Sharif Hamad.
Duni was announced victor at the election after defeating his contender Hamad Masoud Hamad, the only two who picked and duly returned the nomination forms. Mr Duni got 339 votes out of the 464 valid votes – equivalent to 73.06 percent – while Mr Hamad collected 125 votes.
At the general election, held at the Mlimani City Hall on Saturday, Zanzibar’s first Vice President Othuman Masoud Othuman was unanimously elected Vice Chairman. He was also in the battle against Juma Said Sanani.
ACT Wazalendo Deputy Secretary of Ideology, Publicity and Public Communications, Ms Janeth Rithe, announced on Sunday that the congress also endorsed Msafiri Mtemelwa, to become a member of the party’s national executive council.
