Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has urged the diplomatic community in Tanzania to inform their home countries that Dodoma Region is fully prepared to host embassies and diplomatic residences, with free plots already allocated within the Government City at Mtumba.
The call came from Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), during a special engagement with members of the diplomatic corps held in Dodoma on Tuesday.
The meeting, themed “Dodoma Is Ready: Take Dodoma to the World and Bring the World to Dodoma,” was organised by the Dodoma Regional Commissioner’s Office.
Addressing ambassadors and representatives of international organisations, Minister Kombo stressed the need for confidence and commitment to realise Tanzania’s national development goals.
He said that the 1973 decision to shift the capital from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma was based on a long-term vision, now being realised through significant investments in infrastructure and essential public services.
“The transformation of Dodoma has not only fulfilled a long-standing national agenda but also unlocked vast investment opportunities,” Ambassador Kombo said, urging diplomats to encourage investors from their countries to explore Dodoma’s rapidly growing potential.
He also called on regional leaders to provide regular updates on the city’s development to stakeholders, proposing that such engagements become an annual tradition to promote transparency and strategic partnerships.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, said the city’s ongoing improvements involves sector such as health, education, water supply, electricity, safety, transportation and recreation.
She assured the diplomatic corps that Dodoma meets international standards in key service sectors and is ready to host embassies and foreign missions.
Ms Senyamule further outlined investment opportunities in agriculture, tourism, logistics, manufacturing, construction and mining.
She also announced plans to develop the Hombolo Thematic Satellite City, describing it as a strategic opportunity for foreign investors to collaborate with the government in building a modern urban centre.
Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic community, Kenya’s Ambassador to Tanzania and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Isaac Njenga, commended the government’s efforts in transforming Dodoma.
He said diplomats were especially impressed after visiting the Government City at Mtumba, Benjamin Mkapa Referral Hospital and the under-construction Msalato International Airport.
Ambassador Njenga added that he and his colleagues were satisfied with the city’s progress and would advise their governments to allocate resources for building diplomatic offices and residences in Dodoma.
The diplomatic community is in Dodoma to attend the presentation of the 2025/2026 budget speech of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, tabled and endorsed by the National Assembly yesterday.
