Africa-Press – Tanzania. LOCAL government authorities have assured the public of their readiness to effectively participate in the forthcoming population and housing census next year.

Speaking during the academic convocation held on Wednesday at Hombolo Local Government Training Institute (LGTI) in Dodoma, Director of Human Resources and Administration in the President Office Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) Victor Kategere, said the government in collaboration with National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) will not leave any group behind in forthcoming census.

“The government is keen to prepare local authorities to create awareness to clear all misconceptions and fear among the citizens that might impede full participation of Tanzanians” he said.

Mr Kategere called upon the students and the local leaders to use their skills and knowledge to educate citizens in their local areas on the importance of the exercise.

On his part, Rector of LGTI Hombolo, Dr Mpamila Madale said the institute decided to focus on census during this year’s convocation as the way to prepare students, academicians and the surrounding community to be aware of the coming exercise.

“We are not ending here, we contacted NBS, and we agreed that population and housing census should be one of our compulsory topics in our short courses offered here at Hombolo” he hinted.

President of the convocation Dr Peter Mateso hinted that the aim of the gathering that is scheduled annually a day before the institute’s graduation is to share academic experience between the alumni, graduates and the entire institute’s community.

Apart from discussion on the importance of the national population and housing census that is expected to be conducted next year the institute used the platform (convocation) to award the best students and academic members for their various contributions in the previous academic year.
