Africa-PressTanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the management of the National Defence College (NDC) to set sustainable plans which will transform the college into a better, efficient and reliable centre in defence, strategic and peace studies.

Mr Majaliwa issued the directive during the ninth NDC graduation ceremony held at the college in Dar es Salaam yesterday. He expressed the government’s commitment to ensure the college becomes a centre of excellence in the training of high-level military personnel and civil servants.

“The government recognises and values the contribution made by the college in the transfer of knowledge to high-level military personnel in defence, strategic and peace studies. “To date the college has trained about 300 senior military personnel from within and outside the country, whereas civilians from public institutions have also benefited with programmes offered by the college,” said Mr Majaliwa.

The premier also instructed NDC to make sure the training and expertise offered help to address the 21st century security threats including terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking, cybercrime and Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, he expressed gratitude to the partner states for their continued support to the college, calling upon them to continue bringing their senior officers to train at the institution.

“I am very pleased to see that some of the graduates of the programme are coming from Bangladesh, Burundi, Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, Uganda and Zambia. You clearly demonstrate the confidence you have in the quality of education offered here,” noted the PM.

He urged the graduates to use the knowledge obtained at the college well in tackling the security challenges in the current era.

Equally, the premier urged the college to make a follow up of their graduates to find out if the knowledge obtained has reaped any fruits. According to the college’s management, about 40 people graduated from the security and strategic and peace studies course.
