The Central Committee of the National Executive Council of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has officially endorsed Paul Makonda, the former Regional Commissioner of Arusha, as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Arusha Urban Constituency. This decision effectively removes Mrisho Gambo, the current Member of Parliament for the constituency, from the list of shortlisted aspirants.
The official announcement was made today, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the CCM headquarters in Dodoma by the party’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training, CPA Amos Makalla. According to the statement, the initial vetting process for Arusha Urban involved seven aspirants, including Paul Makonda.
Makalla noted that the selection was based on key criteria such as leadership qualities, political capability, integrity, and the candidates’ popularity among CCM members and the general public. He emphasized that CCM remains committed to strengthening democratic principles by fielding candidates who are genuinely capable of serving the people.
