Ministry demands value for money in all projects

Africa-PressTanzania. THE Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has directed internal auditors, accountants and finance departments officials to ensure value for money in all projects.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Dr Zainab Chaula, told a work plan meeting for the internal auditors, accountants and finance departments officials under the ministry that planning, revenue and expenditure must match the expected outcome.

Dr Chaula said they must put their documents properly and clear all queries on time, so that when it is time for the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) auditing, they must have all documents required to clear or substantiate the details needed.

The capacity building meeting also drew internal auditors, accountants and finance officials from Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) and Tanzania Post Office (TPC).

Participants also came from the Universal Communications Fund (UCSAF), Information and Communication Technology Commission (ICTC) and the Telecommunications Service Consumers Council (TCRA – CCC).

“We must ensure our plans and budgets match the output, while we adhere to the stated rules and regulations that control the financial matter, since auditing is there by law for accountability and efficiency,” he insisted.

Dr Chaula said last financial year, the ministry and the institutions did not have a good financial record from the CAG thus the meeting among others wanted the officials who are mandated with the financial discipline matters to put their records and documents ready for the 2020/21 CAG audit.

Speaking during the meeting, the Ministry’s Chief Internal Auditor, Ms Joyce Christopher said the meeting aimed to build a common understanding and planning on how they will handle the queries that will be put up before by the CAG team.

She said they aimed to empower the officials, who would be handling any queries on the need to timely respond and the need to have documents ready for improved response to any of the CAG details needed.

Ms Christopher also said they want internal auditors and accounts to know that they are tasked to ensure value for money by inspecting the projects to verify if they bear the financial status they release.
