A Patron for Gender Desk from the District Police department Rodgers Lucas said at a public meeting mid this week that already 20 cases regarding the issues are in the court and the rest are still being investigated.
He took time to urge the parents to give priority in guiding their children in a good manner and supporting them in positive things.
“I remind my fellow parents not to forget to work closely with the teachers in protecting our children. We must stop believing that this task is for the teachers’ alone. Our girls must be protected from all evils, so that they are able to finish their studies safely,” he said.
District Commissioner Ms Khadija Nassir Ally said that all men who will be held responsible for impregnating school girls will be dealt with accordingly.
She also took time to ask district council’s leadership to make Saturday of each end of the month to be a day of providing legal aid to the residents’ in the district.
On the other hand, the Chairperson of a non-governmental organisation dealing with legal issues Mwambao Agricultural Development Organisation (MWADO) Mr Shukuru Ngweshani said that legal challenges facing women in the district have decreased into large extent following awareness campaign on the subject to women groups in the area.
“Women in our area are becoming more aware of their rights and have been using their platforms to discuss issues relating to their legal rights on different issues compared to back days,” he noted.
