Africa-Press – Tanzania. MTWARA Port has stepped up preparations for Tanzania’s landmark liquefied natural gas (LNG) project after hosting a delegation from Norway’s Equinor, in a visit aimed at assessing the port’s readiness to support the major energy investment.
The delegation, led by Equinor representative Noel Cox, together with a representative from the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Asiad Mrutu, toured key stakeholders and facilities involved in future logistics operations for the LNG project expected to be implemented in the Lindi and Mtwara regions.
According to information from TPA, the visit focused on evaluating the port’s capacity and preparedness to handle the heavy and specialized cargo that will be required once the project commences.
The ports officials briefed the delegation on recent improvements at Mtwara Port, including upgraded cargo handling infrastructure, enhanced service efficiency, and the introduction of modern technologies in port operations.
According to the officials, the developments have significantly strengthened the port’s ability to manage diverse types of cargo in line with international standards for large-scale projects.
The improvements are part of broader efforts to ensure the port is fully equipped to support the LNG project from its earliest stages.
Speaking during the visit, Acting Mtwara Port Manager Mtunze M. Sudi assured the delegation that the facility is fully prepared to handle cargo whenever required, emphasizing the port’s commitment to speed, efficiency, and high service standards.
He noted that management is fully aligned to support the successful implementation of the strategic national project, which is expected to play a key role in Tanzania’s economic development.
