Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi on Wednesday led scores of mourners in the burial of veteran politician Ali Ameir Muhammed, who passed away on Tuesday.

The Zanzibar Second Vice-President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, was also among the senior leaders who attended the ceremony. Mr Muhammed died while receiving treatment at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

Earlier, President Mwinyi joined Muslim worshippers for prayers held at Donge Kichamvyaani Mosque in North Unguja Region.

He also offered his condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends, urging them to remain patient and steadfast during this difficult moment.

Throughout his lifetime, Ali Ameir held several prominent positions in government and the ruling party. They included Minister of Home Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania, Member of Parliament for Donge Constituency, CCM Regional Secretary for Urban West, Deputy Secretary General of CCM Zanzibar, Board chairman of the Uhuru and Mzalendo newspapers, and Member of the CCM National Board of Trustees.

Born on 5 January 1943 in Donge Vijibweni, the late Ali Ameir is survived by his widow and ten children. He was laid to rest in his home village of Donge Mbiji.
