Africa-Press – Tanzania. Zanzibar CCM Presidential candidate Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi has pledged to implement a major water project valued at $26 million in collaboration with NEC Company from Oman, aimed at ensuring reliable water supply for residents of North Unguja.
Speaking during his re-election campaign trail, Dr Mwinyi also highlighted plans to upgrade major highways and rural roads to tarmac standards, promising better connectivity across the region.
Among his key development pledges are large-scale infrastructure projects including the Mangapwani Port and Kigunda Airport in Nungwi, which are expected to significantly boost trade and tourism in North Unguja.
Dr Mwinyi emphasized the role of the blue economy in transforming livelihoods, pledging continued government support for fishermen and seaweed farmers. He promised to provide modern boats, establish a processing plant for marine products, and enhance rice farming by upgrading Kibokwa and Cheju valleys with improved irrigation systems.
He further pledged to construct a large modern market in Kinyasini, complete with a dedicated parking area, to enhance the local business environment and ease commercial activities.
“We will continue supporting entrepreneurs with capital, interest-free loans, and market access for their products,” Dr. Mwinyi said, adding that he plans to double the funds for soft loans, increasing the current allocation of 96bn/-.
His campaign continues to focus on sustainable development, infrastructure, and economic empowerment for Zanzibaris.
