National Pool team gears up for African challenge

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Pool Association (TAPA) has issued a strong appeal to sports stakeholders, partners, and supporters to rally behind the national pool team ahead of the upcoming All-Africa Pool Championship, scheduled to take place in South Africa this February.

Speaking recently, TAPA Chairman Wilfred Makamba said the call for support is aimed at ensuring the national team is fully facilitated to make a competitive and meaningful impact at the prestigious continental tournament.

Makamba emphasised that TAPA’s ambitions extend well beyond mere participation, noting that the team is targeting strong performances and potential titles that would elevate Tanzania’s profile on the African and global sports stage.

“Our immediate priority is to ensure the team enters camp early, allowing ample time for thorough preparation and attainment of the required competitive readiness,” Makamba said.

He underscored the importance of financial and logistical backing, explaining that international championships demand significant resources to support training camps, equipment, accommodation, travel arrangements and access to professional coaching.

“When stakeholders respond positively to such appeals, players are able to train under improved conditions, sharpen their skills and compete confidently against well-prepared opponents from across Africa,” he said.

“This directly enhances our chances of achieving positive results and bringing honour to the nation.”

Makamba further revealed that arrangements are underway for the national team to begin a joint residential training camp on January 8 this year. In the interim, players are continuing with individual training programmes at their respective clubs under the close supervision of their coaches.

He concluded by stressing that timely and coordinated support from stakeholders will play a decisive role in strengthening preparations and significantly improving Tanzania’s prospects at the All-Africa Pool Championship.
