Africa-Press – Tanzania. PREMIER League’s main sponsor, NBC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tanzania Football Federation to offer life and health insurance to clubs participating in the top flight league.
The insurance will benefit athletes, specifically football players, the technical bench and their families.
The NBC Managing Director Theobald Sabi represented the sponsor in the signing on occasion while Wallace Karia represented the football governing body.
The NBC Director Sabi said the agreement will ensure all players participating in the League acquire better life and health care, especially in a health crisis.
“The insurance will include health and life insurance jointly provided by Sanlam Insurance Company and Britam Health Insurance.”
He also said that this insurance will offer players better health care and give players the freedom to showcase their talents without fear of injury.
The NBC representative has also explained that the insurance will cover hospital bills, travel expenses, and surgery.
According to Sabi, NBC has decided to offer life insurance to players since it will benefit players during loss, damage, illness, death or accident when playing football or after retirement.
“If the player develops a chronic illness that will prevent him from playing football, NBC has prepared a package to assist you.
If a player has a permanent injury or death while playing football, he or his family will benefit,” said Sabi.
The TFF president Wallace Karia said it is the first time for the league sponsor to provide such a cover to improve the league stakeholders’ interest.
“This is historical; I believe we will do better than this in sports and give our players a lot of benefits,” said Karia.
Karia has urged players to use the opportunity offered by the main league sponsors to benefit but should be in line with the rules assigned in the contract.
