Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chama Cha Mapinduzi Women’s Wing (UWT) has concluded its Special General Meeting to conduct internal opinion polls for representatives of four special groups, with several incumbent Members of Parliament failing to retain their positions.

The categories contested included representatives of People with Disabilities, Academicians, Workers, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

The tightly contested exercise, which lasted nearly 20 hours, was held at the national level and saw sweeping changes as delegates voted in fresh faces, signaling a shift in leadership and representation ahead of the next parliamentary term.

The results were announced on Sunday by CCM Deputy Secretary-General (Mainland), Mr John Mongela, who also served as the returning officer for the election.

Among those who failed to make it through the process were sitting MPs and well-known personalities who had represented various interest groups in the 12th Parliament.

These include Neema Lugangira (NGOs), Alice Kaijage (Workers), and Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Mwanaidi Ali Khamis (Academicians).

Also unsuccessful were celebrated figures from the arts and entertainment sector, including actress Halima Mpinde, popularly known as “Davina”, and Twanga Pepeta Band Director Asha Baraka.

In the category of academicians representing Mainland Tanzania, Selina Kingalame led with 562 votes, followed by Asha Ferooz with 495 votes, and Dr Regina Malima with 268 votes. In Zanzibar, Zeyana Abdallah Hamid emerged victorious with 426 votes.

For the Workers category, Halima Nassor topped the list in Mainland Tanzania with 566 votes, followed by Mariam Mangula who secured 290 votes. In Zanzibar, Tunu Juma Kondo won with 556 votes.

In the People with Disabilities group, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination), Ummy Nderiananga garnered the highest number of votes with 758, followed by former Special Seats MP Stela Alex with 708 votes, and Aisha Mduya with 326 votes. Zanzibar’s representative is Nassriya Nassir Ali who obtained 656 votes.

In the NGOs category, Margaret Ezekiel led in Mainland Tanzania with 668 votes, followed by Rahma Kisuo with 350. In Zanzibar, Mgeni Hassan Juma emerged winner with 302 votes.
