Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Oryx Gas Company in collaboration with the ASAS Company have handed over food aid and Oryx gas cylinders to help the victims of the floods that occurred in Rufiji District, Coastal Region.
The aid has been handed over in Dar es Salaam to the Member of Parliament for Rufiji State who is also the Minister of State, Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) Mohamed Mchengerwa to help the people in the district who suffered from floods caused by the continuous rains.
Speaking while receiving the aid on behalf of the people, Minister Mchengerwa thanked the companies for reacting to the disaster and volunteering to support the people of Rufiji due to the challenges they faced.
“I am here to receive help as we know the situation in Rufiji, each one of you realizes that this year the floods have been too big, we are comparing this year’s floods with the floods that happened in 1972 and 1974…
” Where the Father of the Nation (Mwali Julius Nyerere) was forced by him and the then Second Vice President, old Rashid Mfaume Kawawa, to go to Rufiji together to go around and apologize to the people.
“Today we are witnessing the awakening of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who is the number one comforter in our nation that he gave yesterday when he was in Arusha but the information he has been giving asking Tanzanians to be united and help those who have the opportunity to volunteer for their fellows “, he said.
Before handing over the aid, Oryx Gas Sales Manager Shaban Fundi said on behalf of Oryx Energies that they apologize to all the victims of the floods that occurred in the country, especially the people of Rufiji.
“The Oryx Gas company in cooperation with our ASAS partners, we have decided to hold the hand of our Rufiji colleagues by giving them food aid and gas cylinders to help the people in the humanitarian aid camps.
“We have provided rice, sembe flour, valuable cooking oil of more than 52 million. In addition, we have provided 100 small jars and 100 stoves, we have also provided 100 small jars worth more than 25 million. We apologize to the honorable Minister Mchengerwa, the people of Rufiji and the Government in general,” said Fundi.
