Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Singida Region has called on people with disabilities (PWDs) to cooperate with the Corruption oversight body whenever they detect acts of corruption, especially during this General Election season, paving way for legal actions to be taken against the perpetrators.

Representing PCCB’s Singida Bureau Chief Mr Sosteness Kibwengo at the a seminar for people with disabilities designed to empower the members to curb corruption as the country heads towards the general election scheduled for October 29, this year, the office’s investigation officer, Mr Onesmo Mdegela the PWDs are have a significant contributing in eliminating graft in the society.

“Indeed, you are people with a very significant contribution to society; that’s why we saw it fit to involve you by providing anti-corruption education, especially during this election period,” said Mdegela.

He also stressed that the fight against corruption should not be limited to elections alone; through such training, participants should also focus on preventing corruption within their surrounding communities.

On his side, the secretary of the Association of People with Albinism in Singida, Mr Nassor Ernest said PWDs have been left behind in various initiatives including ongoing election campaigns and ward against corruption while others are conversant about the two areas.

“Some people with disabilities are being used by pseudo-politicians to get votes.

Bad enough, some aware of corruption issues are underutilized in fights against grafts,” said Nassor Ernest, secretary of the Association of People with Albinism in Singida.

Regarding the training, the Tanzania Federation of Disabled People’s Organisations (SHIVYAWATA) in Singida Region, Ms Veronica Mathew hailed the anti-corruption watchdog for the initiative, saying PWDs needs more capacity building sessions for the members of group to be in a good position to fight grafts in their respective areas.

“The issue of fighting corruption should be inclusive, no one should be left behind.

PWDs interact with other members of the community. And all issues of election are our affairs. We have gained something important from this training,” she said.

Recently, the anti-graft agency announced it was closely monitoring candidates, political parties, and campaign activities to ensure clean and transparent electoral processes.

PCCB Director General, Mr Crispin Chalamila affirmed that the bureau is closely monitoring individuals aspiring to contest in the forthcoming elections.

“The aim is to ensure that the country’s leadership is chosen in a clean and corruption-free environment,” Chalamila said while opening a two-day training workshop titled ‘Improving Efficiency in Delivery of Legal Services for Lawyers’ at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha, Coast Region
