PM orders effective spending of development funds

Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has ordered effective spending of the funds issued by the government for implementation of various development projects in the country.

He said the government has dished out billions of shillings for execution of the development schemes including the ones in Ruangwa District, thus the money must be used for the intended purposes.

The Premier also directed all chairpersons for project construction committees who would build the health centres and schools that they must come from their respective villages, so as to allow smooth implementation of the projects and their supervisions.

The PM issued the directives on Monday while inspecting the construction of Kitandi Secondary School in Likunja Ward in Ruangwa District, during a working visit to inspect development activities in Lindi region.

He called upon all people who are members of the construction management committees to be honest and control theft in all areas, where the projects are being implemented and ensure that they are built with the required standards. “We must ensure value for money approved by our President.”

Mr Majaliwa said that President Samia’s plan is to ensure that Tanzanians have access to all social services including health, water, electricity and roads to facilitate their development activities. “All these are due to the efforts of our Head of State, we must support her.”

“The President has dished out the money, we cannot tolerate a negligent person in government projects, and this is a message to all the committees overseeing the projects in the country. Wananchi expect to see the projects are completed,”

He said that all members of project committees in the country should be involved in all stages of construction including procurement of building materials.

For his part, the Project Secretary Arafa Msuya said the construction of the new Kitandi Secondary School which is a boarding school for girls and boys from Form One to Six will reduce inconveniences encountered by students to walk a long distance to and from school.

He said Ruangwa District Council has received 1bn/- from the Central Government through the EP4R project for the construction of the school, which includes the infrastructure of sixteen buildings among others administrative building and five buildings with a total of 13 classrooms.

Other infrastructure include construction of four dormitories including two for female students and two for male students, construction of two teachers’ houses each with a capacity of accommodating two families, construction of dining hall and a kitchen and 30 latrine holes and a waste incinerator.

Technicians who execute the project through force account expressed gratitude to the government for releasing fund for the project. They said apart from moving water services closer to the people it also provides employment to wananchi.
