Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Prime Minister, Mwigulu Nchemba, has directed the Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, to reopen the Ufufuo na Uzima Church led by Bishop Josephat Gwajima, which had faced operational challenges.
The Premier gave the directives today, November 24, in Dar es Salaam adding that after being re-opened it should be given conditions as well as being under six months supervision.
Elaborating, he stated that after pardoning several youths who were involved in the demonstration on October 29, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has also pardoned religious institutions that were facing minor challenges.
In his directives, Dr Nchembas asked the Minister of Home Affairs to follow proper procedures and re-issue directives and conditions on religious institutions to operate regarding their conditions and operational boundaries.
“A mistake of one institution should not lead to the closure of all institutions, worship is a relationship between a person and their God, and therefore the actions of leaders should not deny believers their right to worship,” he stated.
The Ufufuo na Uzima Ministry’s registration was revoked on June 2 this year in a letter from the Registrar, citing violation of conditions and laws by engaging in political activities from the church pulpit.
