Africa-Press – Tanzania. MOTORCYCLISTS (bodaboda) have been reminded to adhere to traffic regulations by wearing helmets and avoid carrying more than one passenger.

Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner Awadhi Juma explained that about 146 motorcycles have been confiscated while 111 suspects arrested during the ongoing crack down.

Out of the total number, 85 suspects were served with notification and paid fine while 26 others were arraigned in court to answer the charges including driving a motorcycle without license, carrying more than one passenger and failure to wear head helmet, he said.

Mr Juma also said five suspects had been arrested over possession of stolen motorcycles.

He named the suspects as Audax Leonard (43), a resident of Rukoma village, in Bukoba Rural, Elpidius John (31), Rutaihwa Novatus (29), Justus Justin (32) and Silvanus Salvatory (38), all Bukoba residents.

Five motorcycles that have been stolen had also been recovered including MC 415 BZY, MC 382 CUZ, which had so far been identified by their owners, MC 640 CXZ, MC 893 CPG and MC 571 BZD.

He appealed to people who had lost their motorcycles to report to the Bukoba Central Police station to identify them adding that the suspects would be arraigned in court when investigations were completed.
