President Samia commissions 386 army officers

Africa-PressTanzania. President who doubles as Commander-in-Chief of armed forces, Samia Suluhu Hassan has commissioned 386 officer cadets, who graduated from Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) in Arusha, at a colourful event held at State House located in Chamwino, Dodoma on Saturday (April 17, 2021).

Out of commissioned officers, two were Chinese, four Indians and five Kenyans.

Other graduates were from Germany (2), USA (1) and Burundi (1) while the rest were from Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF).

A total of 335 commissioned officers were men and remaining 51 were women.

Some top public figures attended the ceremony were Vice President Dr Philip Mpango, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, Speaker of the National Assembly Job Ndugai, Chief Secretary Ambassador Hussein Katanga, Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Venance Mabeyo just to mention.

The Chief in Commander, Samia Suluhu awarded them to the position of Lieutenant Usu to serve in the Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) effective from April 17, 2021.

Commander-in-Chief commissioned the officers through power vested onto her under Article 148 (2) (a) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania and Section 29 (5) of the National Defence Act.

“I commission you to be officers in the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces to the position of second Lieutenant from today 17th April 2021,” proclaimed the President.
