Africa-Press – Tanzania. DODOMA Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, has commended the Regional Police Force for spearheading civic awareness campaigns through sports, saying such initiatives play a vital role in promoting peace and public participation in national exercises.

Speaking recently during the closing of a special sports bonanza held at Mtekelezo Grounds in the Capital City Ms Senyamule praised the Police Force for organising the event with the objective of encouraging citizens to turn out for the ongoing Permanent Voter Register (PVR) update exercise.

“I wish to sincerely commend the Police Force for always being at the forefront whenever key national activities are announced. This marks the fourth time I have witnessed the Police use sports to raise awareness and mobilise the community,” she said.

She said the bonanza, held under the theme ‘Uchaguzi Salama Unawezekana’ (A Safe Election is Possible), has helped bring together Dodoma residents, especially the youth, by instilling the importance of peaceful elections and active civic responsibility.

Ms Senyamule further urged the public, particularly eligible young voters, to take the opportunity to register and ensure their participation in upcoming electoral processes.

For his part, Dodoma Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) George Katabazi, said the event was not only a sports gathering but also a strategic crime-prevention campaign.

“Through these games, we have engaged youths across 14 wards in Dodoma. The aim is to promote peace, prevent crime and at the same time educate the public on the importance of voter registration,” said SACP Katabazi.

He said the campaign was part of the broader Polisi Jamii (Community Policing) initiative, which integrates security efforts with community development and public awareness.

The sports bonanza featured football, netball and traditional games, attracting participation from local youth groups and community members.

Organisers say the initiative will continue to be used as a platform for education and unity in the region.
