Africa-Press – Tanzania. RUKWA Administrative Secretary, Gerald Musabila has said doors are open for both local and foreign investors are interested to invest in the Region, blessed with various natural resources.

He said the region has abundant minerals, sufficient labor force, large market- both local and neighbouring countries of Zambia and Malawi, good climate and attractive geography.

He made the remarks when opening the Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Exhibition in Rukwa Region, which was held at the Nelson Mandela ground from May 25 to 31, led by the Slogan that says “Encouraging Investment in Agriculture, Industrial and Commercial based on environmental conservation”
Musabila also expressed his opinion for the Region to continue to advertise existing investment opportunities in parallel with the removal of any investment and trade barriers in order to attract more local and foreign investors.

“The region has opportunities that if developed properly will bring productivity and increase the speed of national economic growth in general,” he said, noting that business environment has been improved.

He said progress by the government has been made in developing the regional infrastructure, specifically roads, airports, including the construction of Kabwe and Kasanga Ports and building of passenger and cargo ships in Lake Tanganyika.

He said there is also ongoing renovation of the MV Liemba ship to make the region reachable for trade, investment and easily reach domestic and foreign markets.

Mentioning the investment opportunities in the region, he said that Rukwa region is blessed with helium minerals in the areas of Rukwa Lake Basin which are in the research stage as well as Coal and Gemstones whose mining has started.

Similarly, he emphasized the responsibility of Regional Administrations and Local Government Authorities in building the country’s industrial economy by attracting and motivating local investors.

He said the local investors can invest in factories instead of other commercial activities such as sales and service provision using the capital they have.

In addition, the Administrative Secretary has advised the investors to invest in factories for processing agricultural products in order to increase their value since the region produces many agricultural products, especially maize and rice and has started the cultivation of strategic crops of cashews, avocado and sunflowers in the valley of Lake Rukwa and Upper Ufipa.

Ambassador of Sweden in Tanzania, Charlota Ozaki Macias, who visited the exhibition at Nelson Mandela Stadium, said that Rukwa is very blessed to have abundant investment opportunities.

He said the region is blessed with minerals, reliable rains that allow good agriculture, and he congratulated the Wafipa for being able to preserve the history of their tribe.
