Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government’s ongoing efforts to promote tourism, bolstered by personal initiatives from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, have played a significant role in the rising number of tourists visiting Tanzania, both domestic and international.
This was said by Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu on Tuesday during the official launch of Season Five of the ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ campaign, held in Moshi.
The ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ campaign, coordinated by Zara Tanzania Adventures in collaboration with Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), seeks to promote domestic tourism by encouraging Tanzanians to visit the country’s diverse tourist attractions.
RC Babu noted the impact of President Samia’s personal involvement in tourism promotion, particularly through her participation in the Tanzania: The Royal Tour film, which has significantly raised the country’s tourism profile internationally.
“Since the launch of the campaign led by President Samia three years ago, we’ve witnessed a sharp rise in the number of tourists both local and international, visiting various attractions across the country,” he said.
He added, “The president made the tourism sector a national priority, promoting Tanzania abroad through the film in which she actively participated. This has helped position tourism as one of the country’s leading sources of foreign income.”
Commenting on the ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ campaign, Mr Babu commended Zara Tanzania Adventures for initiating the event, saying it complements government efforts to boost tourism.
“I assure you of the continued support from the regional government to ensure this important initiative becomes sustainable for the benefit of our people and the country,” he said.
During the event, Mr Babu also applauded the company for being recognised as Africa’s Leading Adventure Tour Operator, calling the achievement further evidence of the campaign’s impact under President Samia’s leadership.
The company’s Human Resources Manager, Mr Bernard Saini said that the campaign aims to inspire more Tanzanians to explore their own country’s tourism potential.
He noted that the ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ campaign is one of these efforts, where local participants join international climbers each year to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, helping to strengthen the domestic tourism sector.
“Even Tanzanian ambassadors representing the country abroad have joined the campaign, which coincides each year with Mainland Tanzania’s Independence Day celebrations,” Saini added.
Regarding this year’s edition of the campaign, Mr Saini said new incentives have been introduced to attract more participants.
“There will be three categories of climbers. The first includes those climbing for one day to a designated station, the second for two days and the third group will climb all the way to Uhuru Peak, as in previous years,” he explained.
