Africa-Press – Tanzania. GERMAN Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms Regine Hess, has expressed satisfaction at the good conservation work being carried out at the Serengeti National Park.

Shortly after joining several hundreds of athletes in a race at the 2021 Serengeti Safari Marathon held in the park at Ndabaka area last Saturday, she said: “I am impressed and like to take part in the Serengeti Marathon, because I like to run and compete with others.”

Further speaking to this reporter shortly after successfully covering 5 km of the race, the envoy said Tanzania has great fascinating features, especially Serengeti National Park worth visiting. Elaborating, she noted that the ongoing conservation activities at the site will always remind her of Tanzania.

She added, “The German government is a key partner that provides a lot of money to support conservation activities to continue keeping the Serengeti ecology through Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS).

“As the world continues to recover from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, it is good that tourism industry in Tanzania is recovering and showing positive results.

“Serengeti has suffered because of Covid-19 but we are happy that the number of tourists is now picking up.” More than 20 FZS staff at Serengeti office took part in the Serengeti Safari Marathon as part of promoting local tourism and conservation activities during the event.

Reached for a comment, Mr Masegeri Rural, FZS Projects Manager at Serengeti Office said development of domestic tourism is essential for sustainable conservation of the wildlife in Serengeti.

“ As conservation organization, we are here to support efforts being made by stakeholders to promote domestic tourism and this race is happening at the right time, when there is wildebeest migration,” Mr Masegeri pointed out after completing 10 km race during the marathon.
