Africa-PressTanzania. IN ensuring that Tanzania properly implements the target for an inclusive economy, Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa has directed all regions countrywide to establish citizens economic empowerment centres, which will help in transforming the country’s economy.

The centres are part of the twelve strong directives issued by the premier yesterday when officiating the 5th workshop for the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) held in the country’s capital, Dodoma.

At the workshop, which was attended by all Regional Commissioners (RCs) and District Commissioners (DCs), from across the country, Mr Majaliwa underscored the need for regional authorities to establish economic empowerment councils which would help people to boost their individual economies at the same time helping the country to realise its ambitious economic revolution.

“The centres should be in position to provide loans to different groups, offer training in business management as well as officiating all economic activities,’’ he said.

The Premier said the centres should equally ensure that there is availability of different information including markets as well as accreditation of different products produced in the country.

Mr Majaliwa further directed that all public and private institutions supervising funds and empowerment programmes, which provide subsidies, to make sure that they dispatch efficient staff to the centres for economic empowerment.

“I also want to see the NEEC coming up with a policy for participation of Tanzanians in various programmes just as it was directed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan when speaking at the 12th meeting of the National Business Council, which was chaired by her on June 26, 2021, where she directed that she wanted to see Tanzanians fully participate in investment and implementation of strategic and flagship projects currently being undertaken in the country,’’ he insisted.

Mr Majaliwa further asked two ministries—Education Science and Technology and that of Trade and Industries, Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) as well as public education institutions to intensify training that meet demands of both local and international markets.

He further asked the ministry of Finance and Planning to make sure that financial services were brought closer to people especially in the rural areas as well as looking at best ways to reduce interest rate charged on capital obtained by Tanzania.

The meeting was also attended by the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Governor Prof Florens Luoga.

At the meeting, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, responsible for investment, Geoffrey Mwambe, said under president Samia, the government was well committed to ensure that there were business opportunities for all, especially the young generation.

He expressed optimism that that was why the government was ensuring that there was direct employment in offices as well as direct employment at individual levels.

Mr Mwambe, the former Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) Executive Director, said that the government was equally fully committed to seeing more Tanzanians participating in implementation of the development projects in the country.
