Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIANS have been urged to continue to support their country’s clean cooking energy campaign following an increase in production of the alternative charcoal briquettes produced by the National Minerals Corporation (STAMICO).
The call was issued by the Chairman of the Rural Energy Board (REB), Major General( Rtd), Jacob Kingu, accompanied by REB Members and the Management of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) when they visited the Rafiki Briquettes Clean Energy Factory owned by STAMICO located in Kisarawe, Coast Region.
Ambassador Kingu urged STAMICO to increase the speed of production of Rafiki briquettes so that all Tanzanians can use clean and safe cooking energy.
“This clean energy agenda spearheaded by the Sixth President Samia Suluhu Hassan, aims to liberate women from the use of unsafe and unsafe energy. We are promoting and implementing this vision of our Leader”, said Ambassador Kingu
He added that the collaboration between REA and STAMICO in implementing Clean Cooking Energy Projects aims to reach 80% by 2034 (Strategy 2024-2034).
REA Director General, Engineer Hassan Saidy added that the Agency continues to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that the Clean Cooking Energy Strategy achieves the set goals, including increasing the availability and distribution of alternative charcoal.
Sophia Mgonja, a member of the REB Board, congratulated STAMICO on the way they are producing alternative charcoal at the Rafiki Briquettes Clean Energy Factory and urged various stakeholders to use the clean energy produced to make the clean energy agenda sustainable and reach many Tanzanians.
For her part, STAMICO Acting Director Eng Baraka Manyama said that the Rafiki Briquettes project has helped in environmental protection (it has saved environmental disasters), and has also become a major source of employment for various groups including women, youth and various stakeholders.
The government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) and the National Minerals Corporation (STAMICO) have signed a contract to build a new renewable energy factory (Rafiki Briquettes Alternative Charcoal) in Geita region where the contract is worth 4.5bn/- and construction is ongoing.
