Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has reiterated its commitment to improving the quality of education by implementing various strategies, including upgrading school infrastructure and increasing the number of teachers.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMORALG), Festo Dugange, said this in the National Assembly while responding to questions from Maswa West MP Mashimba Ndaki and Rorya MP Jafari Chege (both CCM).

Responding to Mr Ndaki, Dugange said that in 2021/22 the government allocated 470m/- for the construction of Mashimba Secondary School, including eight classrooms, one administration block, one library, three laboratories, one ICT room, 20 toilet units and rainwater harvesting tanks.

He said all planned infrastructure reached completion stage, with the Maswa District Council contributing 9.5m/- from its own revenue to complete some facilities.

A recent assessment shows that 185m/- is required to fully complete the remaining works.

“The government is continuing efforts to secure funds to finalise the project,” he said.

On education in Mara Region, Dugange said national examination performance improved between 2024 and 2025.

He noted that the PSLE pass rate rose from 80.87 per cent to 81.80 per cent, CSEE from 92.37 per cent to 94.98 per cent, and ACSEE from 99.92 per cent to 99.95 per cent.

However, in Mara Region, PSLE performance declined from 78.05 per cent to 67.90 per cent, while CSEE improved from 90.9 per cent to 92.30 per cent, and ACSEE remained at 100 per cent.

To improve performance, the government has constructed 32 new primary schools and 27 new secondary schools between 2021 and 2026.

The number of teachers has also increased from 9,613 in 2021 to 11,766 in 2026, alongside improved teaching and learning materials.
