Africa-Press – Tanzania. POLICE in the country have called upon the public to refrain from linking criminal activities to poverty since there are various ways to overcome the situation.
The call was made in Dar es Salaam on Friday by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Ferdinand Mtui at the launch of a book titled ‘Fadhili ya Mfadhiliwa’ authored by Police Officer, Dr Ezekiel Kyogo.
He said the book content has covered a wide range of topics which are crucial in the society such as the role of parents in shaping children’s behaviours and how youth can avoid negative influences of engaging in criminal activities.
“There is no association between poverty and crimes because you can use various technique to fight poverty … it has been proven that committing crime is just like other behaviours because there are some people who are not poor but they engage in crimes such as sexual harassment,” DCP Mtui said.
He further said that the main role of police in the country is to protect people and their property by cooperating with the society.
“The protection of people and their property is aimed at maintaining peace which is one of the national values, the society has great contribution in shaping the generation so that it becomes patriotic to the nation,” he said.
He said the book reflects on the objectives of the Police Force, noting that it will be beneficial to the nation in general.
On his part, Dr Kyogo said that he was motivated to write the book as a way of giving back to the Police Force, including sending a message to the society on the importance of valuing contributions of others for one’s successes.
He said that if the beneficiaries will acknowledge and value the contributions of their supporters, and give feedback it will help to build love, trust and solidarity in the community.
Dr Kyogo emphasized on the importance of working hard in order to fight poverty.
Dr Riziki Nyello, from the Institute of Social Work, said that economic and social transformations are crucial in promoting development in the country.
He said that the book will be beneficial to secondary school students because the group is expected to bring such changes in future.
Dr Nyello said the book content is in line with the country’s National Entrepreneurship Training and Education Framework which provide guidelines for teaching entrepreneurship skills from nursery school to tertiary education.
