Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has reminded students wishing to pursue studies in the East African Community (EAC) colleges to obtain certificates of no objection from the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) to facilitate smooth registration immediately after completion of their studies.
This came after Special Seats legislator, Ng’wasi Kamani (CCM) expressed her dismay over delays in issuance of registration to graduates who come back to Tanzania after completing their studies.
“Many young graduates have been encountering challenges from professional bodies when seeking for registration so that they can seek eligibility criteria when it comes to obtaining employment opportunities while they have already spent high costs to get their education,’’ she said.
In response, Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Omary Kipanga said that to address the challenge, the government via TCU has been providing certificates of no objection to students wishing to pursue studies in the EAC Higher Learning Institutions prior to joining those colleges.
“We want to facilitate smooth issuance of registration after students complete their studies and before issuing certificates of no objection, TCU ensures that it is satisfied with the kind of colleges and programmes that students want to pursue’’ he noted.
The deputy minister further highlighted that his ministry was equally meeting regularly with professional bodies to ensure that there are no stumbling blocks in issuance of registration documents.
During her main question, the Special Seats MP had asked what plans the government had to assist graduates who studied at EAC colleges in obtaining registration to be employed in the country.
According to Mr Kipanga, the registration of graduates from foreign universities, including those from EAC colleges, is carried out by Registration Authorities/ Professional Boards in accordance with existing procedures.
“Before registration, graduates are required to submit their academic certificates to the TCU and those with diplomas and certificates must submit their credentials to the National Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (NACTVET) for verification, equivalency assessment and education level comparison,’’ he noted.
Therefore, the deputy minister urged all graduates from foreign institutions to follow the established procedures in order to obtain registration
