Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA suffered their first loss in the third round of ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup African Regional Qualifiers to Uganda, losing by eight wickets in Kigali, Rwanda, on Thursday.

Reports had it that Tanzania opted to bat first and scored 140/8, giving an easy chase to Uganda, who managed to score 141/2 with 10 balls to spare.

Ronak Patel scored a half century for Uganda to emerge man of the match. Tanzania’s long seasoned batsman, Kassim Nassoro took 34 as team captain, Abhik Patwa took30 runs from 23 balls with Sunjay Kumar taking 23 not out.

The fall of instant wickets cost the home boys dearly as they were able to add to the tally and give a hard time for their opponents to chase.Tanzania had however, a good start in the opening on Wednesday when they defeated giants Kenya and Nigeria. It was a big one and a back to back game against the experienced Kenyan team.

Tanzania winning the toss and opting to bat first, didn’t disappoint as Ivan Selemani once again set the tone of the inning which was very ably finished by Arshaan Jasani who scored 90 runs of 50 balls Not out. The Tanzanian Boys posted 187 runs on the board against the difficult Kenyans who began their chase very well and were in control of the game from ball 1.

It was match winning overs from Kassimu Nassoro Chete and Riziki Kiseto which changed the flow of the game back to Tanzania with spinners doing a clinical job ending with 3 and 4 wickets respectively. It was a hard fought 49 runs victory for the team and Arshaan’s match winning knock rightfully earned him the Man of the Match award. Kenya also tested their second win against Nigeria, winning by eight wickets.

Nigeria posted a weak score of 130/6 that was easily chased by Kenya after posting136/2 with eight batsmen without batting.Tanzania was later in the evening expected to re-play Kenya as Nigeria had a date against Uganda.

Today is the rest day as teams will be back in action tomorrow to determine the winner who will progress to the ICC World Cup finals.
