Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government has allocated 5.1bn/- in the 2025/2026 financial year to compensate 1,730 residents affected by the construction of a 220-kilovolt electricity transmission line from Masasi to Mahumbika.

THE Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, made the statement today, April 13, 2026, in Dodoma while responding to a question from Ndanda Member of Parliament, Faraji Nandala, who sought clarification on when residents of Chikukwe, Chigugu, Chikundi, Mwena, Ndanda, and Nanganga wards—whose areas are affected by the National Grid project would receive their compensation.

In her response, Makamba explained that the payments are intended for citizens who have made way for the implementation of the key electricity infrastructure project, which forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve reliable energy access and stimulate economic development in the affected regions.

She further assured the Member of Parliament that the compensation would be paid within the current financial year, subject to the availability of funds, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ rights during the execution of development projects.
