Africa-Press – Tanzania. Tanzania and Comoros have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in five key areas, with good governance at the forefront.
The agreement was reached during discussions between Chrispin Chalamila, Director General of Tanzania’s Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), and a delegation from Comoros led by Fahamoue Youssouf, President of the Comoros Anti-Corruption Agency.
Chalamila highlighted that Tanzania has made “significant progress in good governance and in efforts to prevent and combat corruption,” noting that collaboration between the two nations has long been guided by regional frameworks, including the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AUABC).
He explained that one major area of cooperation will involve sharing experiences on reducing corruption, identifying methods used in corruption-related crimes, and improving public awareness campaigns aimed at discouraging corrupt practices.
He further outlined additional priorities, including joint efforts to strengthen national integrity systems, develop better tools for identifying corruption risks, and implement stakeholder recommendations to address weaknesses that allow corruption to persist. According to Chalamila, these measures will help ensure that both nations strengthen their anti-corruption institutions and improve accountability.
Youssouf emphasized that the Comorian delegation’s visit “demonstrates transparency between the two institutions,” adding that cooperation will expand opportunities for sustainable capacity building. He stated that future collaboration may include training programs, technical exchanges, and the establishment of formal systems to enhance coordination in anti-corruption work at both the regional and continental levels.
Both sides underscored that Tanzania and Comoros share a long history of cooperation built on mutual respect, cultural ties and a shared commitment to stability, peace and development.
