Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA has donated 500 tonnes of maize to Mozambique to support victims affected by devastating floods caused by heavy rains.

The consignment was handed over in Maputo on Tuesday by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The maize shipment was delivered by an Air Tanzania cargo aircraft and received by a Mozambican government delegation led by Minister for Planning and Development, Salim Cripton Valá.

Speaking during the handover, the minister said the support reflects the long-standing brotherly relations between the two nations, rooted in the legacy of their founding leaders, Julius Kambarage Nyerere and Eduardo Mondlane.

He noted that President Samia had sent the aid to help ease the suffering of flood victims, while also conveying her condolences to Mozambique’s President, Daniel Chapo, and the people of Mozambique.

“Tanzania stands in solidarity with Mozambique during this difficult time and remains ready to offer further assistance whenever needed,” Kombo said.

During the visit, Kombo also held talks with Mozambique’s Prime Minister, Maria Belvinda Levy, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in economic cooperation.

The Mozambican government expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, describing it as a strong symbol of friendship and solidarity between the two neighbouring countries.
